Works and energy renovation

Renovation: compare estimates, craftsman and planned work

A total TTC does not allow to compare two work projects. Surfaces, performance, references, preparation of the work site, finishes and responsibilities must appear within a fairly precise perimeter.

Quick response

Essential in a minute

First define the need and have several quotes made after a suitable visit. Check the existence of the company, the contracting identity, the qualification exactly corresponding to the work when it is necessary and the useful insurances. Compare line by line quantities, references, labour, preparation, evacuation, delays and payment. Never hand over your tax IDs to a gaiter and do not sign under pressure of an aid announced as imminent.

1. Write the need before contacting the companies

Describe the parts, surfaces, observed problems, desired level of performance, access constraints and expected result. For an energy renovation, an independent board can help to order gestures and prevent equipment from being sold without sufficient diagnosis. Provide the same document to several professionals and ask for a visit when measurements or condition of the building are decisive. A comparison is distorted if each company encrypts a different solution without explaining its assumptions.

  • Perimeter and surfaces described.
  • The same needs are passed on to companies.
  • Technical inspection carried out where necessary.

2. Verify who contracts and who intervenes

Check the name, registration number, address, contacts and consistency between the quote and the company you met. For assistance requiring the RGE qualification, look for the professional in the official directory and check that the qualification field covers the work envisaged on the relevant date. Ask who actually performs the work and whether a subcontracting is planned. A mention or logo on a commercial document does not replace the verification in the official source.

  • Identity of the coherent contractor.
  • Qualification verified in the official directory.
  • Subcontractors and responsibilities identified.

3. Compare lines and not just total

The estimate must include products, quantities, units, prices, labour, movement, taxes and validity period. For each lot, mark up or sufficient technical characteristics, performance, preparation of the support, protection of the premises, connections, finishes and evacuation. Find optional or absent posts. Harmonize the units and request a written clarification before signing. An accepted estimate becomes binding: a vague area may create a disagreement at the time of the construction.

  • Detailed quantities and units.
  • Verifiable references or performance.
  • Preparation, finishing and waste included or excluded.

4. Organize calendar, payment and reception

Make sure you specify dates or deadlines, steps, payment terms, processing of unforeseen events and documents submitted at the end of the project. Beware of a financing presented as a simple formality and read separately any credit. Create the accounts related to public aid and do not send your credentials. Upon receipt, compare equipment, references and works to the estimate, record the reserves accurately and keep invoices, notices, certificates and photographs before you pay according to the contract.

  • Time frame linked to defined steps.
  • Separated and included credit.
  • Reception prepared with the accepted estimate.

Check the points you actually checked. Checks stay in this page during the visit; they are not sent to the server. A checked point does not constitute a validation of the merchant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Useful answers

Does the RGE qualification guarantee all the work?

It must correspond to the field of work concerned and be valid, and is a useful or necessary qualification for certain aids, but does not exempt from comparing the estimate and the contract.

Does a signed quote involve the customer?

Yes, the estimate is a contract offer and engages the parties when it is accepted, so you need to get clarifications and verify the funding before signing.

Can an administration approach to sell works?

France Rénov is reminded that the administrations do not approach for work. Do not transmit tax identifiers and check each contact through the official channels.
