Kitchen equipment

Stove or pan: cooking, dimensions and maintenance

The announced diameter is not enough to choose a stove. The plate, the preparations, the storage and the maintenance instructions determine the useful reference.

Quick response

Essential in a minute

Check the type of plate and the declared compatibility of the model, then the cooking dimensions, the weight and the handle. Count the parts of the lot and read the package leaflet for the oven, the dishwasher and the authorized utensils. Choose the formats corresponding to the meals actually prepared, without assuming that a large batch is more economical.

1. Check the model with your plate

Identify your plate and the constraints indicated in its instructions. For induction, look for a declared compatibility for exact wear and check the dimensions of the bottom with the requirements of the plate. The Tefal guide consulted recommends reading the symbol and the model form; it does not allow to declare compatible all the products of a given material. Keep the reference if you buy the elements of a range at several times: a family name does not guarantee an identical construction.

  • Type of plate known.
  • Declared compatibility of the model.
  • Base and close-up plate requirements.

2. From meals and available space

Describe the quantities cooked and the preparations: a small portion, several food items to be taken or a simmered dish. Look at diameter, depth and volume when they are indicated, then the weight and the grip. Also measure the storage and the place in the sink. Two utensils of the same outer diameter may have different shapes. If the useful measures are not provided, ask them instead of deducing an exact capacity of the photograph or the number of people advertised.

  • Quantity and preparation defined.
  • Dimensions and weights examined.
  • Storage and cleaning possible.

3. Count what actually composes the lot

A five-piece batch does not necessarily correspond to five containers: lids, handles or accessories can be counted. List the containers and formats you will use. 25 € each cost 50 €; one batch to 65 If only one additional part is unnecessary, it does not automatically create savings. It may be relevant if its other components meet an identified need. Also compare compatible accessories sold separately.

  • Counted containers and accessories.
  • Distinguished useful formats of duplicates.
  • Required handles and covers identified.

4. Read the heating and cleaning conditions

Check the specific reference instructions for heating, utensils, cleaning and oven. Conditions may differ between the container, handle and lid. Do not generalize the authorization of the dishwasher or oven to a whole set because it appears on a single room. Bring the maintenance operations closer to what you are prepared to do on a daily basis. An indication of commercial resistance does not exempt you from reading the coating limits or the manufacturer's instructions.

  • Instructions specific to each element.
  • Oven and cleaning explicitly allowed.
  • Maintenance compatible with your habits.

Fictional example: A costs €40 plus a €15 lid and €8 delivery, totalling €63. B costs €60 including lid and delivery. B costs €3 less for the chosen need. Check usable diameter, hob compatibility and care: a complete price alone does not make two utensils equivalent.

Frequently Asked Questions

Useful answers

Are all stoves of the same range suitable for induction?

Check the exact model compatibility. The manufacturer's guide must be read with its plug and plate.

Is a lot always cheaper?

Calculate the cost of the parts you will actually use and add the missing accessories. Unnecessary duplicates can cancel the interest of the lot.

Can I put the handle in the oven with the stove?

Read the instructions for the handle and container. A permit for one piece does not automatically extend to others.
