Wireless tool: compatible battery, charger and platform
Two tools announced at 18 V can use incompatible batteries. Buying a tool alone is interesting only if your battery and charger are really suitable.
Quick response
Essential in a minute
Remove the platform and the exact references from the tool, battery and charger. Check compatibility in the manufacturer documentation, then the contents of the kit. Add what is missing and compare the weight in working configuration. An identical voltage or same brand does not constitute proof of compatibility.
1. Describe the work before choosing the ecosystem
Specify the material, diameter or dimension of the work, frequency and conditions of access. A light machine for a few attachments and construction equipment do not meet the same need. Also list the tools that you really plan to use in the next few months, without buying a complete range on a simple future possibility. For occasional use, compare buying, borrowing and renting with the same accessories and the same task. The battery platform becomes a criterion after need, not a stand-alone goal.
- Material and task identified.
- Frequency and access specified.
- Actually necessary future tools listed.
2. Read explicit compatibility
Note the name of the system and the references, then consult the manufacturer. Bosch distinguishes for example POWER FOR ALL and AMPShare: its documentation specifies that these two systems are not compatible with each other. This distinction illustrates why the only mention 18 V is not enough. For another brand or generation, check your own documentation without transposing this example. A battery that seems to enter a housing is not a validation of operation, safety or load.
- Platform named in the form.
- Battery references and charger confirmed.
- Verified compatibility for the chosen model.
3. Compare the cost of a usable set
Ficile example: a tool alone 89 €, a battery necessary to 45 € and a charger to 25 € represent 159 € before other costs. A kit equivalent to 149 If you already have the compatible and sufficient elements for work, the tool alone can remain relevant. Check capacity, number of batteries, charger, box and kit accessories: compare two closed boxes or the same machine name does not establish an identical configuration.
- Elements already possessed identified.
- Content of the discounted kit.
- Full cost and equivalent configuration.
4. Check weight, recharge and consumables
Bring the advertised weight closer to the configuration actually used with battery and accessory. Check the load information, the organization of breaks and the consumables adapted to the material: drill, blade, abrasive or fastening. A higher capacity can change weight and congestion; it does not replace the model's recommendations. Read the battery's maintenance and storage instructions. Do not use an improvised adapter to bypass an incompatibility: ask for an explicitly supported configuration.
- Weight in use taken into account.
- Consumables adapted to the task.
- Reload and storage according to instructions.

Tool alone or kit: the posts to compare
| Post | Tool alone | Kit |
|---|---|---|
| Machine | Exact reference | Same reference to be confirmed |
| Battery | Owned or to be added | Number and reference to read |
| Charger | Compatible or to buy | Model actually included |
| Accessories | Depending on task | Content of the batch to be counted |
Fictional example · No merchant prices
Tool alone or kit: counting what is missing
Fictitious example: tool alone costs 89 €, the compatible battery to add 45 € and the charger 25 €, i.e. 159 €. A kit to 149 € with the same elements comes back to 10 If you already have compatible and sufficient battery and charger for work, the tool alone remains at 89 €. Equivalency requires the same machine, battery and useful equipment; an identical voltage does not establish compatibility.
- Inventory the already possessed elements.
- Check compatibility references.
- Count box and consumables if necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions
Useful answers
All batteries 18 Do V of a brand work together?
Don't assume it. The brand can offer multiple systems. Use explicitly indicated compatibility for the platform and references.
Does a larger battery guarantee a better choice?
Compare need, weight and compatibility. Capacity alone does not describe the comfort or recommendations of the model.
Do you need to buy several machines to dampen a battery?
Buy for an established need. A lower cost per use does not make machines that will remain unused useful.
