Television and audiovisual equipment
Television: piece, connections and uses to compare
The diagonal display does not describe the place of the TV on its furniture or the devices it can accommodate. A useful comparison is part of the complete installation.
Quick response
Essential in a minute
Measure the room, furniture and access, then list video sources, consoles and audio equipment. Check dimensions with foot, connections and exact functions of the model. Compare the available energy and durability information. Add fastening, cables and installation to the budget, without turning a demonstration into a store in promise of results at home.
1. Measuring the place of use
Raise the width of the furniture, depth, space available and spectator position. Note the windows and light sources to reflect on the actual use. Compare the exterior dimensions and position of the foot rather than the diagonal. If you wish to attach the device to the wall, have the support, fixing and mounting conditions checked by a competent person. Do not apply a unique ideal distance without considering your preferences and contents. A reasonable on-site measurement and testing are more useful than an automatic increase in size at the time of a promotion.
- Measured furniture and clearances.
- Dimensions with foot.
- Fixation studied if necessary.
2. Inventorying connections
List the devices used at the same time: box, console, player and audio system. For each, identify the connection and the necessary functions. See the exact TV documentation, as the number of sockets does not indicate all their capabilities. Also check the physical access to ports after installation. For applications, confirm their availability with the relevant services and any subscription conditions. A general promise of connected TV does not guarantee every app or audio function. Keep a simple schema to predict cables and avoid an improvised accessory after delivery.
- Apparatus listed.
- Functions of verified ports.
- Applications and subscriptions confirmed.
3. Compare reference and useful information
Keep the full model code, size, and variant of the offer. Ask for the conditions of the demos or settings offered if you compare screens in store. The ADEME recommends a suitable purchase as needed and read the information available on the digital devices. For your choice, consult energy label and durability data when they are present, without mixing two protocols or units. Bring together devices of size and function relevant to you. An energy data must then be linked to your use; it alone does not constitute a predictable invoice.
- Model code retained.
- Comparison of relevant sizes.
- Units and product information read.
4. Budget and control commissioning
Add delivery, support, cables and installation required. Ask what is included in a commissioning service and what part will be used for delivery. Upon receipt, check reference and condition before installation, and then test the priority devices and applications. Keep the documents and look for maintenance instructions without using a cleaning product not provided for the screen. Plan updates and privacy settings of the connected TV. If the model received does not match the offer, set the deviation with the elements of the order rather than multiply unnecessary settings.
- Calculated installed cost.
- Connections actually tested.
- Maintenance and confidentiality prepared.

Add the necessary mount and installation
Fictional example: A costs €400 plus a €60 compatible mount and €40 installation, totalling €500. B costs €470 including the same items. B reduces this budget by €30 if mount, wall and service conditions are suitable. Screen size alone does not establish equivalent picture quality.

Frequently Asked Questions
Useful answers
Is the diagonal enough to know if the TV is coming in?
Check the exterior dimensions, foot and clearances prescribed. Also measure the piece of furniture and the passage of the package. The diagonal does not describe the total width or depth of the installation.
Do all sockets of the same shape have the same functions?
Check the capabilities of each port in the model documentation and those of connected devices. The number of sockets alone does not guarantee the desired function or compatibility of a whole connection chain.
Why check applications before purchase?
Your preferred service may depend on the model, the system and its access conditions. Request confirmation for the exact reference. A general mention of connected functions does not describe all the services available.
